When a barcode is unknown

“We couldn't find this ornament” does not mean the ornament is fake, rare, or not yours. It usually means the barcode is not in the shared catalog yet.

You can still add it to My Stash.

Add the ornament privately

  1. Scan the barcode.
  2. Select Add this ornament.
  3. Enter a name, maker, year, and item number if you know them.
  4. Choose condition and box.
  5. Save.

The barcode can be saved with the private ornament so the mobile app recognizes it next time.

Search your stash first

If you think you may already own it, select Search my stash before adding another copy. Search by name, maker, or item number.

If the item is already in My Stash with a different barcode, open that ornament and add a copy instead of creating a duplicate design.

Check the code type

  • Ornament UPC/EAN: a retail barcode from the packaging.
  • Box label: a code you assigned to a storage box.
  • Manufacturer item number: a printed code such as QDB2462, not a retail barcode.
  • QR code with a web link: BaubleStash will not open the link.

If you scanned a box label but expected an ornament, open Boxes and check which box uses that code.

Do not assign an unknown ornament barcode to a box

An unknown product barcode is not automatically a box label. If you want to use that code for a box, choose the explicit box action. Otherwise leave it as an ornament.

Help the catalog later

After adding the private ornament, you can select Suggest to BaubleStash catalog. A Librarian reviews the details and any selected photos before publication.

You do not have to contribute. Your private stash works without it.

Private by default. Your ornaments and photographs stay yours.
