Scanning problems
The camera will not open
- Check that you allowed camera access when BaubleStash asked.
- If you selected Don't allow, open your phone’s Settings.
- Find BaubleStash in the app list.
- Allow Camera.
- Return to BaubleStash and open Scan again.
If the app shows Open camera settings, that button takes you to the right place.
The camera opens but the code is not recognized
- Move closer or farther away.
- Hold the phone steady.
- Wipe the lens.
- Improve the light.
- Turn on the flashlight if the code is in shadow.
- Try the other direction if the barcode is curved.
- Type the number manually into Barcode, item number, or code.
The barcode is damaged or partly covered
Try the digits printed under the barcode. Type them into the manual field.
If the digits are missing too, search by the ornament name, maker, or item number. If nothing matches, add a private ornament and note the damage.
The scanner finds the wrong release
A barcode can match several releases. BaubleStash shows the candidates instead of guessing. Choose the release that matches your packaging, or use Release unknown.
“This retail code has an invalid format or check digit”
The number was entered incorrectly or the barcode is damaged. Check the digits and try again. If the code still fails, search by name or add the ornament privately.
The box QR code does not work
- Make sure you are scanning the label you assigned to the box.
- Check that the label is not damaged or covered by tape glare.
- Try better light.
- Open Boxes and find the box by name instead.
- If the code is assigned to another box, BaubleStash will tell you.
Scanning while offline
The mobile app can resolve codes already saved on your phone. That includes ornament barcodes and box labels that were synced before you lost connection.
If a code is not in the copy saved on your phone, BaubleStash may not recognize it until you reconnect. The banner shows Couldn't sync. Your changes are saved on this device. instead of claiming the ornament does not exist.
The camera works for other apps but not BaubleStash
Check the app’s camera permission again. On some phones, battery saver or privacy controls block camera access for background or restricted apps.
Do not uninstall the app to fix camera permissions. Change the permission in Settings instead.
