Ornaments without a barcode

Many ornaments have no barcode: handmade pieces, older family ornaments, gifts, and items whose packaging is long gone. BaubleStash is designed for them.

A barcode is optional. It is a shortcut, not a requirement.

Add an ornament with no barcode

  1. Open My Stash.
  2. Select Add ornament.
  3. Enter a name you will recognize.
  4. Leave the item number blank if there is none.
  5. Add the maker if you know it. “Handmade” and “Unknown” are valid answers.
  6. Add a year if one is written on the ornament or packaging. Otherwise leave it blank.
  7. Choose a condition.
  8. Save.

The ornament becomes a private record with one physical copy.

Add a handmade ornament

Handmade ornaments often have no manufacturer, series, or item number. That is fine.

Useful details:

  • Ornament name: “ crocheted snowman from Grandma”
  • Manufacturer or maker: “Handmade”
  • Year shown: the year it was made, if known
  • Condition: your own description
  • Notes: who made it, when it was received, or any repair history
  • Box: where it is stored

Do not invent an edition or item number just to fill the form.

Add an ornament by manufacturer item number

A manufacturer item number is the code printed by the maker, such as QDB2462. It is not the same as a store barcode.

Search first

  1. Open My Stash.
  2. Type the item number into the search field.
  3. Open a matching result if one appears.

Use the Scan screen’s manual field

On the mobile app:

  1. Open Scan.
  2. Type the item number into Barcode, item number, or code.
  3. Select Look up.

If BaubleStash recognizes the item number, it shows the ownership result. If not, it offers to search your stash or add the ornament.

Add it manually

If no match appears, add a private ornament and put the item number in Manufacturer item number. The number is preserved as printed.

The ornament is missing from the shared catalog

You can still add it privately. BaubleStash does not require catalog approval to use your own inventory.

If you want to help other collectors, open the ornament and select Suggest to BaubleStash catalog. A Librarian reviews the suggestion before it appears publicly.

See Catalog contributions.

You know the design but not the release

Leave the copy as Release unknown. This is a valid, intentional state. You can identify the release later without changing the copy’s box, notes, condition, or photos.

See Releases and editions.

Private by default. Your ornaments and photographs stay yours.
