Releases and editions
A single ornament design can be made in several years, editions, or packaging versions. BaubleStash keeps those releases separate so your ownership counts stay honest.
Design versus release
- Design is the ornament itself: “Snowflake Angel.”
- Release is a particular version: the 2019 edition, the 2020 repaint, or a club-exclusive variant.
You can own one release and not another. You can also own several copies of the same release.
What counts as a release detail
Useful release details include:
- Release year
- Edition or variant
- Manufacturer item number
- Packaging
- Barcode evidence
A year printed on the packaging is a clue, not always the release year. If you are unsure, leave the copy as Release unknown rather than guessing.
When the release is unknown
“Release unknown” is a normal state. It does not make the ornament less useful.
The copy still keeps:
- Its box
- Its condition
- Its notes
- Its photos
- Its ownership count
You can link it to a release later without creating a second copy.
Identify the release later
Mobile app
- Open the ornament.
- Open the physical copy.
- Select Release.
- Choose Release unknown or the matching release.
- Save.
Website
The website can add a copy with a chosen release. It does not currently provide a release-reassignment control for an existing copy. Use the mobile app to relink an existing copy.
Several releases match
If a barcode or search shows multiple releases, BaubleStash asks you to choose. It does not silently pick one.
Choose the release that matches the packaging, year, edition, or item number in front of you. If you cannot tell, save as Release unknown and identify it later.
You do not know whether it is a different release
Ask:
- Is the year different?
- Is the edition or variant name different?
- Is the packaging meaningfully different?
- Is the manufacturer item number different?
If the answer is no to all four, it may be the same release. If you are still unsure, keep the copy as Release unknown and add a note describing the uncertainty.
