Catalog review and privacy

Catalog contributions are reviewed by a Librarian, a trusted BaubleStash role. Review protects the shared catalog from accidental duplicates, unsupported claims, and private information.

What a Librarian checks

  • Whether the ornament already exists
  • Whether the release details are consistent
  • Whether the item number and barcode evidence are plausible
  • Whether the selected photos are appropriate for a public catalog
  • Whether the contribution duplicates or conflicts with another record

A Librarian may edit fields, attach the evidence to an existing record, publish a new record, or reject the submission with a reason.

What approval publishes

Approval can publish:

  • Ornament name, manufacturer, series, and description
  • Release year, edition, packaging, and manufacturer item number
  • Selected barcode evidence as catalog barcode records
  • Selected photos as public catalog images

Approval does not publish:

  • Your private notes
  • Your condition
  • Your storage box
  • Your purchase details
  • Your unselected photos
  • Your private ornament records or ownership count

What stays private

  • My Stash and its contents
  • Device-only Free photos
  • Unselected cloud photos
  • Personal notes and box locations
  • Your account email and display name outside the review context

The public catalog does not show who owns a private copy or where it is stored.

Why review matters

A barcode is evidence, not proof. The same barcode can appear on more than one release, and a handwritten year may be wrong. Review keeps uncertain claims from becoming automatic facts.

Review also prevents private photos from becoming public by accident.

Rejected contributions

A rejection is not a judgment of your ornament. It may mean:

  • The record already exists.
  • The details could not be verified.
  • A photo was not suitable for public use.
  • The release needs more evidence.

If a reason is shown, use it to improve a later submission. You can also add the ornament privately and keep using it.

Correcting the catalog later

If you notice a public catalog error, use Suggest correction from the ornament page. The change remains pending until a Librarian reviews it.

Private by default. Your ornaments and photographs stay yours.
